Session 2 Activity 1- Review of an online instruction/activity

Our group has reviewed the Waste Recycling work which can be found in the link below.

The author of the work made use of a website to deliver to his students the
knowledge of the topic, the corresponding extended resources and the required assignment. The website included eight pages, namely Home, Waste, Recycle, Impact, Project, Games, Links, and Contact. The author may intend to give students the knowledge of the topic by stating some facts in the first four pages. He then stated the project requirements for students in the fifth page and followed by some extended resources in the rest of the sixth to eighth pages.

The author demonstrated some extend of usage of IT in his work. Firstly, he took the advantages of website which allowed immediate information delivery and hyperlinking. As a result, students are able to access to the latest version of the deliverable if any. They can also access to resources through the hyperlinks. Besides, he asked students to use one Web 2.0 tool – blog to complete a project by requiring students to share “recycling experience in daily life” and tell “some of the recycling facilities, activities, campaigns, local projects or exhibitions that promote the ideas of waste recycling”. Students may then have the knowledge and skills on posting on a blog.

The author, however, only partially utilized the technology to enhance learning and teaching. In this example of creating a blog project, as it was most likely individual project, students used the blog as a publishing platform which is rather one way instead of a collaboration tool. The author may consider extending the use of the blog by requiring students to give comments on other students’ blog. Furthermore, the author may ask students to complete the project as group work by using the blog as a collaboration tool. As a result, students would benefit from learning about technology and learning with technology.
